Nigerian born people were not allowed to participate in the last held diversity visa lottery program DV-2017 through the American Government website. This program did accepted entries in the year 2015 as fiscal year program 2017.
They were not allowed to participate in the previous year held draw DV-2016 too. These Nigerian born people were not allowed to participate in the draw as they had passed the 50,000 mark, according to the Homeland office statics of 2014. As per the draw's rule, natives of those countries which had sent more than 50,000 immigrants to the USA within the last 5 years will not be allowed to take part in the draw, and their birth country will not be included in the eligible country list. According to this rule Nigerian born people too were not allowed to enter in to the draw.
Countries like India, China, Pakistan and some other countries are already in the ineligible country list. So it is expected that the Nigeria too will be in the ineligible country list as they had sent more than 50,000 people to the USA within the last 5 years legally.
People born in Nigeria were advised not to fill the forms as their country name will not be available in the country list in the drop down menu of the entry form, so the applicants will not be able to be submit their entries to the program during the application submission period.
Those who are married to an eligible country born spouse can participate claiming the spouse eligibility, if they meet the draw's eligibility requirements. If the person is selected under the spouse eligibility both of them must enter the US boarder together.
Read the American DV Lottery instructions carefully to understand who can participate in the draw, even if their birth country is not allowed. Those who had been born in another country and living in Nigeria holding the local ID can participate for the program using their eligible birth country in the form.
It is too early to predict. Please do visit this page regularly to see if Nigerians will be allowed to participate in this year 2016.
This information will be available through the American visa bulletin page once it is published.
